Kionna played in this annual tournament over the weekend (June 26-28) in Sioux Falls, SD at Augustana College, hosting 32 teams from the midwest. The IBCA Select Red team was able to walk away with a tourney win. They started a little slow on Thursday with a win over Southern Minne Magic (59-33); Kionna had 2 points in this game and looked sluggish, as did some of her teammates. Jess McDowell stepped up though and had a 16 point game, as well as grabbing some great rebounds. On Friday, Kionna had a game high 19 points as IBCA beat the Northern Lites (out of SD) 69-31. The last pool play game on Friday had IBCA against Montana Elite (see blogger link below) and the girls won this game (92-46). Kionna had 14 in this game. Kionna had 7 points in each of the last three games (bracket play) on Saturday, with the win against MN Metro Stars (48-41), against Pinnacle Bank NE in the semi's (56-47), and in the championship game against the Nebraska Bison/Judds I (aka the Cornhuskers - which was won 72-49).
Overall, it was a great weekend for Kionna and the IBCA girls. Everybody contributes on this team and they have different strengths, so it is exciting to watch.
Next up - Kionna will be traveling to Portland (without us!) from the 4th - 10th, so we are thinking positive thoughts as she participates in a D1 recruiting tournament with LOTS of talent from across the U.S.; the NIKE End of the Trail Tournament. We will be going to Rochester, MN for Shaya's national tournament from the 4th-9th or 10th.
