Iowa AAU 16U/17U State Tourney

Kionna (with IBCA Select Red) and Shaya (with AIA 13U) both played in the Jr. eligible Iowa state tournament this past weekend at Hoover, HS in Des Moines. The IBCA Select Red played in the upper division, while Shaya's team played in the lower division (among more 15 year olds).

Kionna's team has practiced twice, and not with all the players, and did appear out of sync at times. I think they will click better after a few more practices and getting to know each other (and what to expect).

Shaya's team is looking very good. Shaya's best game of the weekend came against the IBCA Select Blue team, and you could not tell she has never played varsity basketball. She dominated on the inside and out - using great moves, hitting two 3-pointers, and getting great offensive and defensive boards, as well as a number of defensive stops and at least 2 blocked shots. Her hands looked a lot better, too. Overall, she had a great tourney. In other games, she had some amazing moves, including a hesitation move and a pull-up jump-shot.

Her team was great this weekend, too. Point guard, shooting guards and bigs were all working hard, and I think this summer will be a great time for this team.

This weekend is an AIA tourney, just with program teams. Then in a couple weeks, Shaya will be going to Chicago for a USJN tourney.
