So the girls played Des Moines East last night, and suffered their first loss of the season. It did not start well, as the first quarter they were outscored by more than 10 points. They spent the rest of the game really trying to catch up, and did a good job even into the fourth quarter, but could never make up that initial deficit. They did not quit - and kept battling, but lost 48-55 to the Scarletts.
East is a very strong and deep team, and have three fairly good sized girls, which is definitely an advantage. Kionna played great defense, had some great offensive moments, and had some very key steals and rebounds. She ended up with 11 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals - and she fouled out with about 1:20 left in the 4th. It is perhaps a good thing to get a loss out of the way now, and use it to really prepare for the rest of the games, and the post-season (which is quickly approaching!)

The team is now going to get ready for Fort Dodge on Friday night, and the Mason City make-up game on Saturday.
