A whole bunch of time has past since the last game - and a lot of practices between Dec 19 and Jan 3! Coach Sullivan apparently told the girls there was a good chance they would all end up sick over break, and sure enough...
Kionna was a little sick (sore throat, little cough) the day after Christmas. By New Year's Eve, the cough was nearly constant. Since the clinic was closed on New Year's Day, I waited to take her in until Jan 2 - after bball practice. She has bronchitis. They gave her a prescription for antibiotic and prescription cough medicine to help her sleep, and so we fed her as much medicine as possible the rest of the day, and the morning before the game. The game was moved up from 6 to 2 pm, because of an impending ice storm. So no meds after lunch.
It was a rough game for Kionna, but a great game for Ames. She played strong despite getting into foul trouble. I am slightly biased, I know, but 3 of her 5 fouls were really crappy calls. One of the fouls should have been on Owings, one of the fouls should have been an offensive charge, and a third foul - she did not touch the girl, but the girl slipped on the floor and they called Kionna. The refs were not great - and still, with both Trisha and Kionna on the bench in foul trouble - and Owings for awhile - the team played really well. The bench really stepped up. It was a great win. 7-0!
