MN Summer Jam

Well, the summer got off to a pretty good start for both girls. Kionna's team, the IBCA Red team, had not played any games since the Iowa AAU State Tourney the last weekend in March. Their last practice was May 31. They may have had a few moments out of sync, but really played well together. They had some come from behind wins, and worked very hard - despite some seriously tropical gym conditions.

The IBCA Red played in the PLATINUM (16-17s) Division. They opened up the tourney with a 45-38 win over MN Stars Jihad Lady Cats. IBCA Red then beat host North Tartan Coury in the quarterfinals 65-52.

In the semis, they went up against the All Iowa Attack Jensen (15U Taylor Greenfield is on this team). They lost in a battle, 47-40. The team finished with 3rd place at the Summer Jam after beating Metro Stars Black 64-61.

Shaya's All Iowa Attack 13U team was playing up in the SILVER Division (14s) and won most of their games fairly decisively, that is until the finals. They faced the North Tartan Steck 14U team in what proved to be the game that never ends. Shaya fouled out in the third overtime. The team went on to win by 1, 75-74, after Madison Weekly hit two freethrows with 6.8 seconds left in the fourth overtime, earning the championship. It was a win where the entire team was able to contribute, and the girls never gave up.

Lots of fun, and a great weekend over all. Next up - Kionna and the IBCA Red team travel to South Dakota for the Miss Basketball Dakota Showcase this weekend (Thurs-Sat, June 25-27).
