Kionna and the IBCA Select Red team took a trip to Portland to play in the Nike End of the Oregon Trail basketball tourney from July 6-9. The team started out strong, beating the MN Metro Stars in their exhibition game. They followed up with five straight wins, including hard-fought wins over the very strong Columbia Cascades and West Coast Premier teams, and took the Gold Division Championship. They lost to the NW Blazers in the national championship semi's in a game that looked a little like they had run out of gas. But overall, going 6-1 was pretty terrific. And the girls really played strong and had so much fun together. The families and coaches seemed to really enjoy themselves, as well.
Kionna was able to make MVP for the Gold Division, and Riley Norman, DJ Norman, and Brittni Donaldson made the All-Tournament Team.

The IBCA Select teams then traveled to Chicago for the Nike Summer Showcase. They won their pool, losing once by two in pool play (4-1 in pool play). They then played the CA Ballaz I team and beat them in the 17K division semis. In the division championship game, the girls faced a very strong and fast US Elite Westside 2010 team from Texas, and competed well - they were tied at half, there were a few lead changes - but ultimately, forced to foul towards the end of the game, the girls lost by 10. It was another great effort and a good tournament for the girls. They were 5-2 for the Chicago tourney.

The 2009 IBCA Select Red team plays its final tournament at Ankeny, IA (Super 16 Regional) on July 29-30.
