Start of 09-10 Season

Well, I have to get caught up, as the 09-10 season (Kionna's last season at AHS) is underway. The girls are off to a 3-0 start, although still struggling at times without a pointguard. They are working on this. Also, as Shaya tore her PCL in October, we are not able to watch the girls play together yet. We will be looking forward to this HOPEFULLY come January.

For now, a brief overview of the first three games:

Ames vs. Des Moines Hoover - a difficult first game, too many turnovers and sloppy passing. But we won 36-21. And it looks like a common theme this season might be more equal contributions for scoring from some of the starters. Ellen and Cheyenne had 10 points each, Kionna 9. Ki also had 9 rebounds and 5 steals this game.

Ames vs. Urbandale (at Drake Knapp Center) - great second game. We looked much better, and had three starters in double figures scoring, with some great support from the bench. Ellen had 13, Ki had 12, and Mady Van Metre had 11. Jenna Power added 9. Ki had a great game adding 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks.

Ames vs. Des Moines Roosevelt - you could really see the lack of a point guard hurting us at first. The girls are still trying to adjust to their offense. But we managed to pull it off anyway, winning 46-42. Emma Rathe, Mady Van Metre, and Ki all had 12 for Ames, with Ki pulling down 15 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 6 blocks.

The game on Tuesday, Dec 8 against Dowling Catholic in Des Moines was cancelled due to weather, and will be played in January. Friday night, the AHS girls face Waukee in what will certainly be the biggest challenge of the season so far.
