Omaha Tourney to Ames Midwest Girls Classic

On June 4-5 the All Iowa Attack 15U (10th) team traveled to Omaha for the Omaha Sparks Tournament. They started out the weekend playing very well, but ended up losing 3 girls to injuries - including their 2 primary point guards. This put damper on their weekend, and they lost their last 2 games. This was their first tournament in a month, not having competed since the April 30-May 1 Chicago tournament, and they had 4 games on Saturday (which was when all the injuries occurred). Not normally a critic of tournament set-ups, but I have been through 8 years of AAU ball now, and this might be the second time either girl's team has been scheduled for 4 games in 1 day. It just never seems like a good idea.

They moved on past this tourney to play in the Midwest Girls Classic this past weekend in Ames. Great teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Michigan attended. The All Iowa Attack team won their 5 pool play games to enter the championship game against the NE Cornhusker Shooting Stars - Bison team. We knew it would be a battle, and the AIA came to play. The girls shot well, played amazing defense, and worked very well as a team.

Shaya has been continuing to improve this early AAU season. The championship game was an outstanding game for her. Without knowing official stats, she had to have an incredible shooting percentage. The whole weekend was a great shooting weekend for her - hitting many threes, layups, great post moves, and free throws. But the championship game she really turned things on, driving through and around the lane, and at times seeming virtually unstoppable. It was a terrific game for her offensively and defensively, having many stops, some great rebounds on both ends, assists, blocks, and an amazing effort.

This was a fun weekend for the team as they continue to get ready for a very competitive July.
