February (almost March!) 2012

It has been an interesting season for Shaya and the Little Cyclones. Starting out at 10-0 was terrific, and then Shaya sprained her ankle, pinching a nerve in the process. We experienced our first loss without her, followed by too many more. The recovery was difficult (both for her ankle and the team) and made worse by the schedule faced as she was trying to get healthy. Her injury seemed to also throw the team off, and there was a streak of 5 straight losses.

But never a better time for redemption than the end of the season. The Little Cyclones have won 4 straight now, including two regional games which catapulted them into the State Tourney. They are scheduled to play the number one team in the state, Southeast Polk, on Wednesday evening at 5 pm at Wells Fargo Arena. The last time these teams met was ugly for the Little Cyclones, as they were in the midst of their losing streak, and could not find their offense. I would guess that things will be different in this first round game.

Shaya is averaging about 12 points pg, 44% FG, 33% 3-FG, and 71% FT; she is also averaging 8 rebounds per game, 2 assists, and 1.5 steals pg.
