Update and State Tourney Play

So the Little Cyclones ended their regular season on a high note. They had a nice win at Indianola and a huge win (to make up for an earlier loss in the season) against Mason City at home for Senior Night. It was a great game to send off the seniors.

Their first 2 games of post-season play did not go as well as hoped - but both ended in a win. The two seniors and leading scorers on the team, Ellen and Kionna, ended up in foul trouble and on the bench a significant amount of time in both games (4 fouls each against Fort Dodge, and 4 fouls for Ellen - Kionna fouling out - against Mason City). Thankfully, and as is expected at this time of year, our underclassmen really stepped up. Jenna Power has been hitting HUGE shots for the team toward the end of the season. Mady VanMetre has been scoring in double digits as well. And Cheyenne Pritchard continues to find her shots and get to the FT line to score, as well. Add to that the very tough defense by Emma Rathe and some good plays by Shaya, and the team made it to the Region Final to take on Sioux City North once again.

This game was a tough game the whole way. Both teams played well, and really made some great shots and had some great defensive plays. Ames managed to hold on and earned their way back to the state tournament! Back again in 2010 is the slogan for the many returning teams (Waukee, Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Ankeny, Linn-Mar, Ames).

The girls will play Des Moines East - who they lost to in overtime by 3 earlier this season - on Wednesday in their first round game. Go Little Cyclones!
